ABOUT ME
James K. Mandart (b.1995) is a media composer, arranger and orchestrator in the Boston area. He writes for a variety of ensembles, ranging from full orchestra, solo piano, chamber ensembles to electro-acoustic music. Apart from writing concert music, James has also written for multiple forms of media, including short films, video games and TV. As well as being a composer, James is a meteorologist who has allowed complex Earth systems to stretch his imagination in ways it had never been before. Human emotion, nature and adventure are at the forefront of his compositional influences. James’ work as a composer aims to explore the dynamic between audience and composer by manipulating sounds, affecting emotions and investigating the duality that develops through different interpretations.
Currently, James is working towards a Master of Music in Composition at Longy School of Music of Bard College studying under John Morrison. While studying under Mark Olivieri at Hobart College, he received his B.A. in Music with Honors in Composition (2017), The Steele Music Award for Excellence in Instrumental Music (2016 & 2017), and The Abramasson Award for Independent Music Study (2015 & 2017).
